The New Forest National Park is one of the South of England’s most famous areas of natural beauty. The 150 square miles of country not only encompasses the largest area of natural deciduous woodland in Britain but also has vast sways of open heathland and moor. Forests often offer inspiration to photographers and our ‘Woodland Wonders Photography Workshop’ aims to concentrate of this fascinating type of landscape.

Our session is centred on an area of ancient Beech woodland where we hope to find a variety of opportunities. We will consider how best to capture colourful, broad landscape images of the wider forest and techniques for spotting ordered compositions in a potentially confusing scene. There will also be plenty of chances for close up images and we will look at macro photography ideas for capturing small flora and fauna details.

As with all of our landscape photography workshops, we will ensure everyone gets individual attention to help develop their personal photography by having small group sizes and plenty of time for constructive discussions. Other photography topics covered on these sessions might include: Compositional ideas (the rule of thirds, lead in lines, shapes in the frame, the focus of the image, perspective and simplicity), the use of tripods, practical application of filters for landscapes, using shutters speeds creatively for the inclusion of movement and creative use of apertures to control depth of field.

10.00: Arrival at meeting point followed by an introduction and briefing from your guide.

10.30: Photography session 1. We will start in an ancient area of forest looking for detail images of color, shape and form. There is also likely to be good opportunities for macro shots of both flora and fauna.

12.30: Lunch break (please bring a packed lunch) and toilet stop at this car park.

13.30: Photography session 2. The group will move to a more open area and concentrate on wider images of the landscape.

16.00: Summary and close.

PLEASE NOTE: Our itineraries are listed as a guide and we may need to alter them depending on unforeseen circumstances, weather conditions or the availability of the subjects. Start and finish times are fixed to enable transport planning.
